Spruce Tap House

“Barbecue is an obsession and the only cure for it is to eat some”- Anonymous. This is what we were thinking about when we decided to go to Spruce Tap House on a Saturday night. We were meeting a friend for dinner and considering the location (ballpark neighborhood) we were a little nervous that there would be a long wait. We were pleasantly surprised that when we arrived our friend was already seated and didn’t have to wait at all.
The décor is typical “tap house” style, causal, relaxed and fits the menu. Our waitress was nice, attentive and helpful with any questions we had. On the night we were there, Jameson liquor was giving away free Jameson mules, which of course we had to try. They tasted refreshing and the fact that they were free made them even better. We were pretty hungry so we got down to business and placed our food order. I ordered the smoked shredded chicken sandwich with a side of fries, my date and our guest ordered the spruce burger with fries and we also ordered a side of baked beans for the table.
The food arrived quickly and we couldn’t wait to dig in. My sandwich was delicious! The grilled onions and poblano peppers along with the smoked cheddar and verde sauce were a nice complement to the smoked chicken. I ate my sandwich in record time. The fries were different than traditional steak fries but were delicious in their own right. Even the baked beans had a unique flavor. The report on the burgers earned equally high points, just as my sandwich did.
The service was good and our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful and the price was right (not too expensive). This is definitely a spot we will be trying again!
